Do Guys Need Porn?
I’ve touched on the issue of guys and porn before in Sex: Men Desire It, and Women Control the Supply. Over at College Candy, they’ve got a good piece that tackles the question of WHY guys like porn so much. Girls who find out their boyfriends are looking at a lot of porn often have an emotional response; they feel a bit like they’ve been cheated on. This piece features a guy explaining how dudes are different from girls in this respect:
He Said/She Said: Guys and Porn
I remember the first time I slept at my ex’s apartment. He ran out to get some pizza and I asked if I could use his computer to check my email.
“Yeah, just don’t look at my browsing history, k?”
Right – because you can tell a girl that and expect her not to wonder why on earth you would make that request!
He wasn’t out of the room for 30 seconds before I did just that. And the first site on the list? MamaLovesC*ck.com.
For real.
It was at that moment that I began to wonder just how prominent porn was in guys’ lives. I mean, I always knew they looked at it, but how often? For how long? And why, especially when they have a girlfriend spending the freaking night?
I asked a close friend for the answers. What did I find out? More than I ever wanted to know.

All the young men I know have looked at (a lot of) porn, and most started *very early*. However, my two closest friends in high school and I came to the conclusion, independently, that using our imagination was ultimately more satisfying and less lazy. Porn was too quick and easy to be fulfilling. Exception: watching porn in mixed company was one of my favorite 14yo pastimes, because it was taboo, awkward, and made for some hilarious, tense moments. Noone would cop to arousal, it was just mystery science theater 3000 style collaborative lampooning with penetration in a car garage.
I do, however, agree with the guy you were chatting with concerning seminal backlog. A man with a backloaded prostate is very different than a man who just blew it. In my experience, more intense, edgey, irritable and productive.
