Breakup Survival Playlist #2: Tornado Alley
When you’re going through a breakup, the first couple of days are a blur. You’re in shock, you’re in denial, and you have a whole lot of support from your friends. All that serves to blunt the effect somewhat. Then, on about day three or four, reality sets in. You. Have. Been. Dumped. Your world has been turned upside down, and you’re not in Kansas anymore.
Maybe your ex has already hooked up with someone new. Your friends need to get back to their own lives. You are alone. You feel horrible. What’s the point of doing anything?
When it gets this bad, there’s only one sane thing to do. Go headlong into the pain and self-pity. Cry, cry and cry some more. Eat unhealthy foods. Stay in your PJs, refusing to shower for a minimum of 48 hrs. (72 hrs. is even better.)
Cue the music. You need a soundtrack for such a sad, lonely and dramatic scene. And I’ve got it for you, courtesy of moi, my very hip daughter, and numerous Hooking Up Smart readers who were kind enough to share their suggestions.
By the way, these are all awesome love songs. They are great to listen to anytime, equally useful when you are feeling upbeat about a potential new love, which you will certainly be experiencing shortly.
