And You Thought Mad Men Was Entertaining

I’ve been thinking about advertising, and how sexy it’s gotten. Every time I turn around, there’s another advertising scandal. First there was the Quiznos commercial scandal -- how large is the gay male market for Quiznos, anyway? Then came the Burger King print ad. Of course, using sex to sell stuff is not new. A lot of the really creative advertising is done outside the U.S., so I went looking for some interesting examples. Not even Don Draper could have predicted these ads.

1. Courtesy of AdFreak.com: Fruit-Sex Candy Wrappers Upset British Man. “As if this hot citrus love weren’t hilarious enough, Simpkins tops it with what might be the funniest sentence ever spoken: ‘The lime, whom I assume to be the gentleman in this coupling, has a particularly lurid expression on his face.’”

2. And check out this Australian Bedroom Police ad:

4. And just in case you forget that when you have sex with someone, you’re having sex with all their previous partners too:

6. This billboard went up in NYC’s Soho neighborhood last summer, and apparently generated some interesting questions from the toddler set as their moms wheeled them down Canal St. “Mommy, when can I have a four-way?”

7. And finally, a Volvo ad I love. The accompany slogan is “We’re just as excited as you are.”

Haha, I like how the poor guy says, "That's pretty quick, I must admit" as he peeks under the covers.
