Le Sigh. Congrats, sure. This of course does not mean that Canadian marriage (geez, whatever that is) rates are actually Climbing. And it does mean that, what? Only 100K+ of words have gone largely in vain here by way of commentary? Goodness how thick we must be. So there’s that whole ‘triumph of hope over experience’ thingy too. Which means that perhaps at least the birth rates might not plummet as much as well. We can only but hope against hope. Close our eyes tight to the perils and failed fortunes around us, and steal ourselves for the inevitable and likely dystopian future. This is after all Canada we’re talking about!
But to someone who’s perhaps not following all the denizens of the zoo, perhaps a link is needed to something about or on/by the happy couple? I feel for the Queen too, but only so occasionally. And typically only when they’re visiting, and I vaguely recall who they might be. Same here too. Thanks again & Congrats to the Loklands. Cheers, ‘VJ’
I am really glad of this news. Thanks for sharing this info! And by the way, congratulations! I personally like the theme of your wedding. Where was the reception held?
Of course one couple deciding to get married doesn’t mean anything in the larger context. I just thought it might be fun for Lokland to see the post title and then discover it was just personal congrats to him and his bride.
I reserve the right to put up the occasional nonsensical, goofy tidbit.
I have posted three new posts since this one. You are the second reader to say this – type www. into the address bar before the blog name and you’ll get the front page. I think there’s a problem with the cache. I informed the tech guy Friday.
It went very well. Her family was here.
Three nieces (7 and 4′s(twins)) in a big backyard with grass, trees, birds and other nature stuff was probably the cutest thing imagineable. (They have never been outside of a large city.)
Wedding took place on family land which we have owned for an exceedingly long time. (Got it before Canada was even two seperate Canadas.)
On said land theres one last old pear tree. Knarled with a wooden swing on it. Its old. Not sure anyone knows how old.
Family tradition is to wipe a small bit of Earth across the forehead of all incoming family members. Tiny and grown alike.
We also dig up a basket and each family member buries a handful with the departing.
The tree is important to us.
I got to rub dirt on her (wife not the tree) forehead. (Evil smiley.)
Traditional vows. Her dress was just a simple strapless with some fancy stuff going on in the leggy region.
I made the tux look better than Sinatra. (obv.)
Best part of entire event.
Walking hand in hand. Leaf falls from tree. She screams (quitely) and jumps behind me…in front of everyone. Material to last a lifetime.
A city girl she will always be.
PS My best man whom I’ve known since we had acorn wars in grade school gave one helluva speech.
You really know how to make a girl cry. I’m all teary at this description, lol. I wish you two all the best, truly. That sounds like a perfectly lovely day. I absolutely love the family tradition part. That stuff matters so much.
We’ve missed you, but in your absence it was kinda fun bringing people to this post thinking they were going to hear me talk about marriage in Canada.

How was it? We want details!
You got me with the title of this post. I guess that also applies to most of the people who read this article.
On another note, congratulation to the newlyweds!
