Beautiful William!

Congratulations to Anacaona and Hubby on the birth of their son William!

Born October 12th, 2012

9 lbs., 6 oz.

All of us were thrilled when Anacaona’s husband popped up in a comment thread to let us know that Ana had given birth to William late last week. Because Ana expresses herself in a unique and heartwarming way, I want to share a quote (unedited) from her email that I find both delightful and hilarious:

Meet my baby!

I know he is white. I have no idea what happened there. The baby took everything after his father I joked at the hospital that I’m the only woman that might need a maternity test!

White?

Whatever, looks like a badass chief of the tribe to me. Do not mess with William.

“Awwwwwww”.

Congrats

Congrats, Ana and Hubby! Greetings to little William!

White? Huh? He is cafe au lait/indio in complexion.

But that is a good one, the maternity test, and I hate to say, quite true for black women with white husbands and light babies–the comments, etc., “Is he yours?” Tack onto it, your 70% black, and hubster’s ancestry, he is mostly likely going to have quite a lot of markers for Euro ancestry….

Super cute! Congratulations Anacaona and hubby!

And holy cow, huge baby! No wonder you needed a c-section. Our Aidan is just now getting to 9 lbs!

Congrats Anacaona and Hubby! He’s so beautiful!

Awww! He is soooo cute. Congrats Mr and Mrs Ana

That is one strikingly beautiful and photgenic baby. Call the folks at Gerber, srsly.

But that is a good one, the maternity test, and I hate to say, quite true for black women with white husbands and light babies–the comments, etc., “Is he yours?”

That is so sadly true. I have a friend who has a white/Amerindian mom and a black/Amerindian dad. She married a white guy and is constantly asked that question or, when the kids were little, if she was the nanny. Another woman of my acquaintance is Hispanic and married to a blond German/Polish man. One daughter looks a lot like dad. She once opened the door for her daughter’s date who assumed that she was the maid. People just aren’t used to seeing the darker mom, lighter dad/kid combo.

Ahhh, congrats to Ana and hubby! William is precious!

14 Iggles October 16, 2012 at 8:00 pm

Aww, he’s adorable!!
Congrats to Ana and hubby :)

15 Anacaona October 16, 2012 at 8:23 pm

White? Huh? He is cafe au lait/indio in complexion.
He is actually a dead ringer for my husband when he was a newborn himself, in fact we joked that he can go as Dr Evil and Mini-me this Halloween.
Everyone was expecting a bit more coffee with the milk when they showed him to us it was quite a surprise for everyone. I told them that the first thing that goes away when marrying a lighter person is the melanin so I was expecting it light, although not quite this light (the kid change colors that freaked me out), but what surprised me is that instead of curly hair he has the same fine straight of my husband it takes many generations to get the hair to go the straight side.

And holy cow, huge baby! No wonder you needed a c-section. Our Aidan is just now getting to 9 lbs!,

I was doing a check up when they realized that the baby was breech, thus they didn’t knew he was this big. I was mostly the fact that I was full term, breech, and I didn’t felt the contractions I was already having and trying to turn him was impossible in my watermelon shaped belly, but I was annoyed I did wanted a natural birth, so the breech thing was the reason but then, aside from the weight he was 21 inches long and his head circumference is 37 cm…Jesus does loves me!

People just aren’t used to seeing the darker mom, lighter dad/kid combo.

People do that back in DR all the time, even if is quite normal, sometimes people are just idiots.

Thank you all you guys! :D
We are really happy life is slowly taking shape with adding William to the dynamic. The cat refused to enter our room the first night we brought him, now she is back to mounting guard in front of our room (something she used to do when I was pregnant) so baby steps on everything, no pun intended.

Well, done Ana.
Congratulations to you and hubby.
He’s absolutely gorgeous.

Now the fun begins, girl! ;)

17 Jason773 October 16, 2012 at 10:10 pm

That kid is big. Get a football in his hands ASAP.

18 Dinkney Pawson October 16, 2012 at 10:15 pm

Good looking guy, Anacaona. Nice work you three. Let us know when he sleeps through the night!

Regards,

19 Stickwick October 16, 2012 at 10:21 pm

How sweet. God bless all three of you, Ana.

20 J October 16, 2012 at 10:54 pm

@Ana

How are you? I hope your recovery is going well. William is beautiful!

but what surprised me is that instead of curly hair he has the same fine straight of my husband it takes many generations to get the hair to go the straight side.

Often, but look at Rashida Jones’ hair. It’s silkier than mine.

but I was annoyed I did wanted a natural birth

Yeah, we all do. I was disappointed too, but the most important thing is that you and William are healthy.

We are really happy life is slowly taking shape with adding William to the dynamic.

Loads of changes ahead–enjoy!

21 Matthew October 16, 2012 at 11:00 pm

Congratulations! He’s adorable. William, my man, this is one crazy world you’ve gotten yourself into. I’m pulling for you.

22 Joe October 17, 2012 at 12:40 am

Congratulations Ana, and to your husband.

Definitely one of the cutest babies ever!

23 Mike C October 17, 2012 at 1:07 am

Congratulations!

24 jlw October 17, 2012 at 3:01 am

“William” is the name that never flags in popularity yet never sounds trendy.

25 Ted D October 17, 2012 at 8:30 am

Grats Ana! You and your hubby make beautiful babies!

26 GudEnuf October 17, 2012 at 11:21 am

Congratulations Ana! I’m glad you are taking this situation with a sense of humor.

27 ExNewYorker October 17, 2012 at 12:26 pm

Congrats! He’s a big one!

28 Ramble October 17, 2012 at 2:42 pm

Congratulations. And, Ana, your arms are a lot hairier than I thought they would be. Still, adorable baby.

29 Anacaona October 17, 2012 at 3:25 pm

How are you? I hope your recovery is going well. William is beautiful!

I’m doing fine mostly bored of not being able to do heavy lifting for a while, aside from that I’m healing very well and thank you I wish I could videotaping him 24/7 he is just doing all sorts of cute things all day. I can’t believe it actually came out of me.

Often, but look at Rashida Jones’ hair. It’s silkier than mine.

True but at least in the family he is probably the first with silky hair. That would make a funny pic with the cousins in a few years.

Yeah, we all do. I was disappointed too, but the most important thing is that you and William are healthy.
I’m already so over it that I told hubby that next time I’m scheduling the C-Section. Hubby actually warned me about the big heads and breech babies running in his family it but I though my genes will overpower his, yeah I learned my lesson. Next time I will be prepared.

Loads of changes ahead–enjoy!

I am is funny many things I remember from when I was a kid and hubby didn’t knew, many kids my mother never told me and many new things I have no words to describe it and hubby who doesn’t like kids is totally into his son and he is totally enjoying himself too. Life is good hoping to continue to be. :D

30 Anacaona October 17, 2012 at 3:40 pm

Thanks again guys. I’m saving this post for William’s scrapbook.
“See son? Crazy people on the Internet that you will never meet welcomed you to the world!”
“Oh mom that is so 2012…”

31 J October 17, 2012 at 6:58 pm

I wish I could videotaping him 24/7 he is just doing all sorts of cute things all day. I can’t believe it actually came out of me.

Yeah, it’s magical. You know that millions of women have done it before you, but it’s still so magical. It’s like falling in love. It feels as if you invented it.

I’m already so over it that I told hubby that next time I’m scheduling the C-Section.

That’s a healthy attitude. It took me a while to get over it. I will say that I had both a C-section and a difficult vaginal delivery. The section was better.

I have no words to describe it

And you’re a writer!

and hubby who doesn’t like kids is totally into his son and he is totally enjoying himself too. Life is good hoping to continue to be.

Yeah, there’s nothing like your own kids to show you how much you really like babies. DH wasn’t all that enthused until he saw the kid, then he went bonkers. The father-son thing is fun to watch.

32 Just a thought October 17, 2012 at 6:58 pm

I think he looks lovely and I wish him the best and you also, I am so happy for you. He is so cuute!

33 Jackie October 17, 2012 at 8:54 pm

Congrats Ana and Mr. A! Keep us posted. :-)

PS: What’s up with William’s hat? Are the yellow things on top tentacles or horns? I feel like I’m missing a good nerdy reference here… :-P

35 Megaman October 18, 2012 at 12:19 am

@Ana
Conrats on little (Prince) William! That’s not an “Angry Bird” hat, is it? At least it’s not a “Lil Cthulhu” hoodie…

36 Megaman October 18, 2012 at 12:23 am

Whoops, “Congrats”. Or better yet… Congratulations!

37 Desiderius October 18, 2012 at 12:25 am

She’s the first person ever to give birth to William, or to fall in love (the kind that really matters) with her husband. Oh you N’s!

Way to go Ana, and belated birthday wishes to our gracious hostess.

38 Jesus Mahoney October 18, 2012 at 11:14 am

Hey!!! Congratulations, Ana! He’s a beautiful baby. And he’s got terrific parents. All the best.

39 Olive October 18, 2012 at 11:20 am

LOL. Clever Desi!

In the case of 6-day old William…
No, I can’t finish that sentence, I’m sure Maury would have positive results anyway. Congratulations!

42 Sai October 18, 2012 at 6:34 pm

Also, dat hat.

43 Anacaona October 18, 2012 at 6:59 pm

Than you to the new ones that had come to celebrate the birth of our firstborn. :D

PS: What’s up with William’s hat? Are the yellow things on top tentacles or horns? I feel like I’m missing a good nerdy reference here…

Is just a dinosaur hat we picked that theme for the baby shower. I actually have dinosaur slippers that match it :D

Don’t be silly…Lil Cthulhu is his plush toy!http://www.amazon.com/Toy-Vault-12-Cthulhu-Plush/dp/B0006IEX7C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1350601130&sr=8-1&keywords=lil+cthulhu+baby

I picture William as a great King with Aidan as his smart Vizier. :D

46 Byron October 20, 2012 at 5:52 am

That is one cute babby.

Its quite possible his features & coloring will change later on & some of Ana’s become more pronounced. I had blonde curls when I was a young ‘un, now I’m much darker. Sometimes a person who physically takes after one of their parents lines early on changes in their teens to more resemble the other.

47 Just1X October 20, 2012 at 7:48 am

Congratulations on your new love. He looks very cute…

Ana, your life has changed … and you now have the opportunity, and the power, to shape the life of another person … do it well … in fact, I know you will … congrats.

Heh at least he has a good start: he can kill Macbeth ;)

I’m hoping for that but his level of pinkness make me to prepare for this not being the case. In any case I get another run with the genetic dice at the very least. It will be funny if his brother/sister takes a turn for being really dark. If they inherited our twisted sense of humor they would be messing with people’s head for a long time.

This is Just1X signing off, I’m going back to my own way. Best of luck to all

Wait you are leaving? Did your last relationship burned the last bit of hope about love in you? That would be a tragedy :(

Ana, your life has changed … and you now have the opportunity, and the power, to shape the life of another person … do it well … in fact, I know you will … congrats.

Thank you as a people’s person and humanist I love this challenge and I know I will do my darn best to raise a good man, someone like my husband who I’m very proud of, and who the world is a better place for having him in it, at least to me. :)

50 szopen October 23, 2012 at 4:55 am

Congratulations! Looks like very healthy and handsome little guy :)

Have your husband cried when he saw your son? I mean, when I first saw my first daughter, in one moment suddenly realised I am crying (no, not because she was really ugly in few seconds after birth, simply for all those emotions).

51 Anacaona October 24, 2012 at 12:23 am

@szopen
Thanks and no hubby only cries out of desperation or sorrow he doesn’t cry out of happiness I also think he was in shock for a few days like “we actually have a baby now?” sort of way. He needs time and sleep to let things sink in. I didn’t cried myself either I only cry by proxy.
