Nailed it ! hahaha (I like my rock quotes)

I"m deeply suspicious of the use of the term "real man" - more often than not it"s used to manipulate and shame men, when the corresponding statement about women ("a real woman would...") never rears its head. No one gets to dictate your masculinity to you.

That said, masculine qualities I admire are: emotional stability, independent judgement, and decisiveness.

One that isn"t complex, because then he would have an imaginary component, therefore not strictly real.

On a more serious note: this question kind of reminds me of "what constitutes a race?" It does not have an answer, because attributes that would describe one vary in a continuous manner geographically, not do they cluster very well.

In the same way, it"s hard to say what a real man is, because even if there is consensus about what a real man looks like on one spot, it will change when deviating from one geographical location. If there are any quasi-universal characteristics, my subjective answer would be:

- Be an individual, be prepared to criticize the status quo if you"re certain to have evidence to support it (meaning: don"t criticize the consensus on a subject, just because you feel like and want to look like a "rebel", it must be well funded to some degree).

- When proven wrong (meaning: your arguments have been proven false as objectively as possible, which is hard to measure), swallow your pride. If not proven wrong, stay the course but reassess your position from time to time.

- Help those that have helped you, and offer help to those that have gained your respect. Reject emotional manipulation of those that did not gain it, or even broke it. Let karma hit them.

- Must possess or have possessed one of following: penis, set of balls, ... other male only organs

Now, in no way am I stating that this list is what makes a man compared to a woman (as in: this is what separates a man from a woman), except for the last point somewhat. There are still a bunch of exceptions to that last point, but I like to think I have distilled the essence here. If not quasi-universal, I still hold them dear to my heart.

Also: male video game campers can never be real men. Never.

I know there is no single right answer here, but how would you define a man to be a "real man"? Put another way, what qualities would you see in a man that would make you think he"s an alpha male in life and not just in relationships? I ask because I wasn"t raised with a good, strong male role model so I became the standard "nice guy" that is also a people pleaser, but I"m now trying to change that. What is it that makes a man a real man and how do I develop those traits?

I while back I got into a discussion with Yohami and a few others about original music, and I mentioned that I wanted to put some of it online for others to enjoy. (hopefully LOL)

I don"t have a website up yet, and I"m starting work on a home recording studio, so it isn"t likely to happen soon. So, in the meantime, I"ve put a few of my original songs on Drop Box and shared them out here:

These songs were recorded in a studio with my last band: Age of Dissent
Lies
Somewhere in the Darkness
215

And this is a song I recently recorded on an iPad 2 using the Alesis iO Dock and Garageband. Really cool stuff:
All I Need is You

NOTE: The acoustic guitar, lead guitar, and strings were written and recorded by my Friend Jeremy D. I wrote and sang the lyrics, recorded the bass, drums, and percussion as well. And of course, I reserve full Copyright on all the music linked here. (well, I share it with some other guys, but you get the drift...)

Let me know what you all think.

Heh I respect you too much to force you to read Twilight in college. Thanks for the offer though, I plan to rewrite the myth of Perseus and Andromeda next or a supernatural mystery with the seven sins, whatever comes first, so I will remember the offer for those, that are more in line something you will like.

Well.... ok, but like I said, my biggest complaint with Twilight was it dropping so many interesting possibilities and it"s sheer wasted potential. If you improve on that...

(notice I"m also being a good boy and not making a clash of the titans joke)

That is the exactly the problem in a romance the possibilities most serve the feelings and the couple not the other way around. You might consider it a better Twilight but then it wouldn"t had been twilight it would had been a book of other genre and the appeal of a romance is the romance. I want to write a romance and I probably will commit the same "sins" Twilight did so what is the point?

So I finished my second draft of the first book supernatural romance YA novel (80,000 words as of now), since we are going to be needing more money soon I finally muster the courage to set a date to start sending query letters. I still need to polish the grammar and I plan to hire a professional editor but first I want to test the plot and characters as it is. So if any of you is a fan of the genre and is interesting on test reading it please leave me an email so I will sent you a brief description and see if you are still interested I will sent you a PDF copy with a set of questions I will need answered and of course any suggestion.
Please only people with real interest and time to do this I have a personal goal of starting the sending before May so this is something that is kind of urgent. Thanks on advance.
